I call my sculptures “Shetani” because they look like spirits. When I was a young boy,
I couldn’t make human faces like my brothers and friends, so they all laughed at me and said my sculptures look like Shetani. My brothers tried to teach me how to do human sculptures, but I just could not come up with perfect faces and five fingers. I would always end up making three fingers. But when the Europeans came to buy them, they liked my sculptures, so I decided to continue making them in that style.
